What Happens To Your French VAT Number If Your Store Is Forcibly Closed By Amazon?

If your French store has been forcibly closed and your account cannot be recovered, you should immediately contact your French VAT representatives, notify the situation and submit a statement of the store’s closure and a screenshot or other supporting documentation to clear the exact date on which the sale ceased.

The closure of the stores means that the sales in France of the cross-border e-commerce companies to which the tax numbers belong cease. You are obliged to submit a VAT cancellation request to the tax authority where your tax representative is located as soon as you are certain that sales have ceased.

After receiving all the information, your French tax representative will submit a VAT cancellation request to the tax authority where your tax representative is located.

The normal processing time for VAT cancellation request is 4-6 weeks. If your declaring obligation is extended to the following month due to time differences, please be sure to work with your French tax representative to complete the last VAT declaration honestly.

If your store is closed and you do not apply to the French tax authorities for a VAT cancellation, it means that your company will have to continue to meet its VAT declaring obligations in France which including completing monthly sales declarations and paying taxes. If you fail to do so for a long period of time, you will face punishment such as quite much penalties.

How to make sure that your VAT number has been cancelled?

You can find out if your French VAT number has been cancelled by going to the official French or EU website and entering the last 9 digits of your French VAT number.
