The main differences, based on administrative procedure, between Germany and France
Country | Administrative processing time | Category | Registration number (Unique Identification Number in France) |
Germany | 4-12weeks | 3 |
The German EPR has a total of three registration numbers. One for the Waste from Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), one for the “Battery” category and one for the “Packaging” category.
|
France | 3-4 weeks | 9 | Sellers need to register with the relevant organization according to the product catalog. Those organizations are called Producer Responsibility Organizations (PRO).
In France, starting January 1st, 2022, companies will receive their UIN registration numbers from the administrative department of the French Environment and Energy Control Agency (ADEME). |
EPR categories in France and Germany
Note that France and Germany do not have common registration numbers. Which means that our e-commerce partners need to apply for different EPR numbers depending on the country.
As it was previously mentioned in other articles, European Member States do not operate the same way regarding registration requirements and do not have the same authorized agencies. Therefore, registration for French and German EPR needs to be done separately. Additionally, the two countries do not have the same product categories but they do share similarities. This is why we prepared a comparison table of EPR product categories to help e-commerce partners understand similarities and differences.
