In the previous article we established basic knowledge about the battery recycling part of the French EPR. Now we would like to show you the battery recycling prices’ evolution for the last 4 years.
The chart above shows that except for alkaline batteries, every recycling prices have been diminishing or at least steadying since 2019. The company named Euro-Dieuze Industrie, bought by the Veola Group In 2000, handles between 5000 and 6000 tons of used batteries every year. It represents more or less 40% of the totality of the battery recycling market in France.
For a battery to be recycled, different steps must me taken. First of all, the battery needs to be inspected and cleared of all electric voltage. The, components and zinc carbon batteries are dismantled and crushed as a way to gather every piece of metal. Some companies prefer to buy the rarest and most expensive metals they need, directly to the recycling companies. This way they are able to safely secure their supply chain.
