Cross-Border E-Commerce Often Sees EORI, What Exactly Is EORI In The EU?

EORI is the abbreviation of Economic Operator Registration and Identification, which is translated into Chinese as Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number. Its main function is to facilitate the identification of economic operator in import and export activities by the customs of the EU countries and to facilitate administrative control.

The EORI number is mandatory for all European companies engaged in import and export activities. In France, the EORI number is mainly used in the various electronic declaration procedures of the customs system called PRO.DOUANE.

How to register an EORI number?

For companies operating in France, the registration of the EORI number is done by submitting an application to the PAE which is the competent authority in the country where the company is located. Once approved, the company’s EORI number will be updated simultaneously in the database of the European Commission.

There are two ways to register an EORI number: by logging in to the online platform to register, or by filling out the form and sending it directly to the authorities via email.

Do cross-border e-commerce companies have to register EORI numbers?

The EORI number is the unique identification number of an economic operator within the EU and it is used throughout the EU. Therefore, the sellers only need to choose one of the EU countries in which they operate to submit an application for the EORI number and use it for the declaration of the import and export of goods.

Cross-border sellers operating in the EU who have registered VAT numbers and are operating in compliance with the regulations must submit their EURI numbers to the local customs office when processing their import and export declarations of goods. If you wish to claim input VAT credits on your business activities, you must use your own EORI number for customs clearance.

The EORI number is important for cross-border sellers to do customs clearance and obtain VAT credits. If you need to register EORI number, please feel free to contact with us.
